Anyone got a good ground safety tip for air compressors?

Hey guys, I just got my first pancake compressor and I'm paranoid about it tipping over or the hose whipping. What PPE do y'all use? I've seen some vids where hoses snap and fly around. Any advice?

Good on ya for asking, Steve. First thing: always wear safety glasses. That hose whip can throw debris. Second, get a hose whip safety cable or just tape the hose to the compressor handle so if it breaks, it won't take your head off. Also, keep the unit on level ground. I've seen too many newbies have their compressor tip over and spill oil everywhere.

Yeah, what Felix said. I also wear ear plugs when it's running, those things are loud. And check the pressure relief valve every now and then. Oh, and if you're using a nail gun, get a pair of gloves that grip well but aren't too thick. I learned the hard way when a nail bounced back. Safety first!

Thanks Felix and Wendy! I never thought about taping the hose. I'll grab some safety glasses and ear plugs too. Any brand recommendations for gloves? I've got big hands.

For big hands, try the Mechanix Wear Original gloves. They fit well and have good dexterity. Just avoid loose-fitting gloves near the trigger. And remember, drain the tank every day to prevent rust. That's a safety thing too, cause rust can send metal bits flying.
