Hey all, got a problem with my Craftsman 6-gal pancake compressor. Plugged it in last night to charge after using it, and the battery light just flashes red. It’s brand new, only used twice. Any ideas? I’ve tried different outlets, no luck.

Flashing red usually means overheat or a bad cell. Let it cool down for an hour then try again. If still flashing, could be a dud battery. Check if the charger has a reset button too. My Makita did the same once and it was just hot.

If it’s a lithium battery, make sure you’re not storing it in a freezing garage. Also try wiping the contacts with a dry cloth – sometimes a bit of dust messes with the connection. If that fails, warranty it. Craftsman is usually good about replacements.

I had a similar issue with a different brand. Turned out the charger was bad, not the battery. If you have a multimeter, check the output voltage of the charger. Should be around 20V for a 18V system. If it’s way low, that’s your culprit.

Thanks guys! Let it sit for an hour and it still flashed. Cleaned contacts – no change. Borrowed a multimeter from a neighbor and the charger is only putting out 5V. Guess I’ll be on the phone with Craftsman tomorrow. Appreciate the help!
