Hey guys, my Ryobi 18v impact driver stopped charging the battery. It was working fine yesterday, plugged it in today and no lights on the charger. I tried another battery and it charges fine, so it's the battery itself. Any ideas before I toss it? It's only a year old.

Classic Ryobi battery issue. Sometimes the contacts get dirty or the battery management system goes wonky. Try cleaning the contacts with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. If that don't work, try freezing the battery for a few hours then letting it warm up and charge. Weird trick but it's revived a few of mine.

Before you go the freezer route, check if the battery has a reset button. Some have a little button on the side. Also, if it's under warranty, just get a replacement. Ryobi's warranty is decent. If not, I'd just buy a new one - they're cheap enough on sale.

Honestly, Ryobi batteries are known to fail. If you're serious about tools, switch to Milwaukee or DeWalt. I know they cost more but you get what you pay for. Had my Milwaukee batteries for 5 years and still going strong. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try the contact cleaning first. Carl, I'll check for a warranty too. Felix, I know Ryobi isn't top tier but it's what I got for now. Appreciate all the help!
