Hey everyone, I'm planning to build a 12x16 deck next month. I'll be using a framing nailer and a finish nailer. I don't wanna spend a ton but I want something reliable. What size compressor should I get? Thinking about a pancake or maybe a hot dog style. Thanks!

Go with Makita, man. Their MAC2400 is a beast for framing. 2.5 HP, 4.2 CFM at 90 PSI. I've had mine for 5 years, never skipped a beat. You'll be sorry if you cheap out.

I'd say look at a 6-gallon pancake like the Bostitch BTFP02012. Enough CFM for two nailers cycling and easy to carry. I used one on a shed last summer, no complaints. Just don't forget an inline oiler if your nailers need it.

Make sure you get one with thermal overload protection! I've seen too many compressors burn out. Also, check the CFM of your nailers—add 'em up and add 30% for safety. For a deck, you want at least 4 CFM at 90 PSI. DeWalt's pancake is solid.

I agree with Steve, Makita all the way. But if you're on a budget, the California Air Tools 2010A is super quiet and oil-free. Won't wake the neighbors. I've run 2 framing nailers off it without issues. Just make sure to drain the tank after each use!
