DeWalt vs Makita Air Compressors: Which One for a Trim Carpenter?

Hey guys, I'm a trim carpenter and I need a new portable air compressor. I'm torn between the DeWalt (DCC2560T1) and the Makita (MAC2400). The DeWalt is brushless and has a 2.5 gallon tank, Makita is 4.2 gallon but heavier. I need it for my 18ga brad nailer and occasional pin nailer. Anyone have experience with both? I care about reliability, noise level, and how long it runs before kicking on again.

I've owned both. For trim work, I'd go DeWalt if you're moving around a lot. The Makita is a beast but it's heavy. DeWalt's brushless motor is quiet and the 2.5 gal is enough for nailers if you're not shooting hundreds in a row. Just don't expect to run a framing nailer with it. The Makita is more for shop use or if you need a bigger tank for other tools. Also, check the CFM ratings - both are fine for brads.

I second Felix. I have the Makita MAC2400 and it's solid but it's a tank. If you're on ladders all day, your back will hate you. The DeWalt is way more portable. Also, consider the noise - the DeWalt is quieter. I'd say go with the DeWalt unless you need the extra capacity for something else. Oh, and make sure you get the oil-free versions - less maint.

I do renovations and I have both brands in different sizes. For your use, I agree with the others. DeWalt for portability. One thing though - the DeWalt is battery powered (if you're talking about the DCC2560T1, that's a 20V cordless). That's a different beast. If you're okay with batteries, it's great but you need to have spare batts charged. The Makita is corded. So if you have a lot of nail guns or continuous use, corded might be better. Just a thought.

Good point, Chris. I was actually looking at the corded DeWalt (DWFP55126) - sorry, mixed up the model. The corded one. So it's more like comparing a 2.5 gal corded DeWalt vs the 4.2 gal Makita. I'm leaning toward DeWalt for weight, but the Makita's tank size might be nice for a little more run time. Thanks for the input guys!
