DeWalt vs Makita Air Compressors - Which one for garage projects?

Hey folks, I'm looking at getting a new air compressor for my garage - mostly for inflating tires, running a nail gun for small woodworking projects, and maybe some light painting. I've narrowed it down to DeWalt and Makita, both around the 6-gallon portable range. DeWalt's DCC2560T1 looks solid, but Makita's MAC2400 gets great reviews too. Anyone have experience with these? I'm leaning DeWalt since all my cordless tools are yellow, but open to suggestions!

Tim, I've run both on job sites for years. The Makita MAC2400 is a tank - literally. That oil-lubed pump will outlast any direct-drive DeWalt. I've had mine through 3 years of daily drain valve cycles, running impact wrenches and nailers, and it just hums. DeWalt's lighter and quiter, sure, but for anything more than weekend warrior stuff, go Makita. My 2 cents.

Important safety note both of you missed: Check the ASME certification on the tank. Makita usually stamps theirs clearly. Also, DeWalt's newer models have better thermal overload protection. Whichever you get, ALWAYS drain the tank after use - moisture buildup causes rust and weakens the tank. Seen a few DIYers skip that and end up with dangerous pressure situations.

For garage projects, I'd actually recommend the DeWalt. Lighter, easier to move around, and if you're already in their battery ecosystem, some models can run off their FlexVolt batteries in a pinch. The Makita is a beast, but overkill unless you're running it hours daily. I renovated my entire basement with a DeWalt compressor - framing, trim, flooring - zero issues. Just maintain it like DM375 said!
