Hey guys, looking to upgrade my pancake compressor for a framing crew setup. I'm torn between the DeWalt D55168 and the Makita MAC2400. I need something that can keep up with 2-3 nail guns all day without constant cycling. Anyone have experience with both? Budget wise they're close so I'm looking for reliability and real-world performance.

I've been using the Makita MAC2400 for my restoration projects (crown moldings, baseboards, etc.) and it's been a workhorse. The cast iron pump lasts forever. But for framing, I'd actually lean towards DeWalt because of the higher CFM at 90 PSI - the D55168 puts out 4.0 vs Makita's 3.3. That extra air really helps when you're running multiple guns. Also, DeWalt's roll cage is much better for job site abuse.

Hold on guys, before you buy either, check the noise levels! I've seen too many guys go deaf running these all day. The Makita is quieter (79 dB vs 82 dB for DeWalt). Also, make sure you're using proper PPE: hearing protection and safety glasses, especially if you're doing production work. Both are solid choices but don't overlook safety.

Thanks for the heads up, Dan193. I always wear ear muffs, but that's a good point. Dan17, your experience with the Makita is reassuring. I'm leaning towards the DeWalt for the CFM, but I've heard some people complain about the plastic parts on the DeWalt. Any issues with durability?

Honestly Bob, the plastic shroud on the DeWalt can crack if you drop it off a truck bed. But the pump and motor are solid. If you treat it well (drain the tank daily, check oil), it'll last years. Makita is more robust overall but heavier. For framing, I'd still go DeWalt - you want that extra CFM when you're nailing off a house. Just my 2 cents.
