Hey everyone, weekend warrior here trying to decide between a DeWalt D55168 and a Makita MAC2400 for my home shop. Mostly using it for nail guns, blowing dust, and occasional impact wrench work. Both are similarly priced around $300. Anyone have long-term experience with either? I've heard DeWalt has better warranty but Makita runs quieter...

As a contractor who runs compressors 8+ hours daily, I'd go Makita every time. The MAC2400 oil-lubed pump will outlast the DeWalt's oil-free design by years. We've had 3 of them on our crew for 5+ years with zero issues besides routine maintenance. DeWalt's fine for occasional use, but if you want reliability that pays your bills, Makita's the move. Their service network is better too IMO.

HVAC perspective here - both solid but depends on your needs. The DeWalt is lighter (30lbs vs 80lbs) if you're moving it around a lot. Makita's definitely quieter though, which matters in a home shop. For blowing out systems I'd take the Makita's higher CFM, but for general shop work either works. Check the duty cycle specs - Makita usually edges out DeWalt there.

Tool collector checking in! I own both actually. The DeWalt has that nice roll cage design that protects it better when transporting. Makita feels more industrial though. If you're keeping it stationary, Makita. If it's getting moved around your property or to job sites, DeWalt. Both great brands - can't go wrong really. The DeWalt's oil-free means less maintenance for a weekend user like you Will.
