Hey guys, just got my first big air compressor and I'm hyped! But I've been reading about accidents with these things. What PPE should I be using besides safety glasses? I've heard about hearing protection and maybe gloves? Don't want to mess up.

Yo DrillMaster, good on ya for thinking safety. I been restoring for 25 years and seen some nasty stuff. Definitely get some ear muffs - those things scream at 90+ dB. And gloves are a must when handling hoses, but make sure they ain't loose or they'll get caught. Also, wear sturdy boots - if a hose whips around it'll hurt your toes.

Hank nailed it. I'd add that a good respirator is key if you're spraying or sanding. And never point the nozzle at yourself or anyone - even with low pressure it can inject air under your skin. That's a trip to the ER. Also, check the pressure rating on your hoses and fittings. I had a cheap coupler blow apart once - scary.

Lots of good advice already. I'll chime in on the hearing thing - don't underestimate it. I wear earplugs under muffs if I'm running a big compressor all day. And one more thing: make sure the tank's drained regularly to prevent rust and that thing becoming a bomb. Safety first, always.
