So I'm browsing marketplace and this guy is selling a barely used DeWalt 60 gallon 2-stage compressor for $300. He says he's moving and needs it gone. I checked the pics, looks clean. Is this a no-brainer or what? What should I look out for when I go see it?

That's a steal, but be careful. Check the tank for rust or welds, and listen for any weird noises when it runs. If it cycles on and off quickly, could be a leak. Bring a small impact wrench to test how it holds pressure. Also, ask for the maintenance records. If he can't show any, be wary. But yeah, for $300, even if you have to put a new pump on it, you're still ahead.

I'd jump on it, but check the serial number and make sure it's not stolen. Also, run it and see how long it takes to build up to 175 psi. If it takes more than 5-6 minutes, could be tired. And check the drain valve works. If it's a dual voltage, make sure the plug matches your setup. I've seen guys sell them cheap 'cause they need 220 and don't want to wire it.

Yeah, what they said. Also, look at the filter and oil - if the oil is milky, that's moisture in the crankcase, sign of a blown head gasket. But for that price, even if it needs some work, it's a good project. I bought a similar one for $400 and had to replace the check valve, cost me $15. Now runs like a champ.
