Just saw this article about Fresno City College opening an Advanced Transportation Center. Seems like they're really pushing to get techs certified fast. "Nearly Certified on Day One" - sounds almost too good to be true? What do you guys think? Will this actually help with the technician shortage or just flood the market with half-baked grads? Here's the link: [article]

I've been in the trades for 20+ years, and I'm skeptical. You can't replace hands-on experience with a quick cert. These new guys come out thinking they know everything but can't handle real-world problems. That said, anything that gets more people into the trades is a good thing. Hope they pair it with strong apprenticeships.

As a woodworker, I don't deal much with cars, but I see the same trend in my field. People want shortcuts. But hey, if they're actually learning the fundamentals, it could work. Fresno's got a good rep for their vocational programs. I'd rather see a trained newbie than someone completely clueless.

I'm all for it! My buddy went through a similar fast-track program for HVAC, and he's doing great. Not everyone can afford a 4-year degree. If this gets more young folks into the trades and helps fill the shortage, I'm on board. Plus, more competition means better service for us. Just hope they cover the basics well.

Good points everyone. I guess it depends on the quality of training. The article mentions industry partnerships, which sounds promising. I might look into it for my nephew who's thinking about a career change. Thanks for the input!
