Is this $99 air compressor a steal or a scam?

Found a 6-gallon pancake compressor on sale at Harbor Freight for $99. Regular $150. I'm just starting out with woodworking - need to run a brad nailer and maybe a small spray gun for touch-ups. Is it worth it? Anyone used it?

That's a decent price for a pancake. But be careful - those cheap ones tend to be loud as heck and might not keep up with a spray gun for more than a minute. For brads it's fine though. I'd say go for it if you don't mind the noise. I've used the 8-gal from HF and it works for trim work.

LOL Tim is right - my buddy bought that exact one and we couldn't talk near it. But for $99 it's a good starter. Just don't use it for continuous spraying. I got a used 20-gal from craigslist for the same price, so maybe check local listings too.

$99 is cheap for a new compressor. I say grab it and upgrade later if you need. Harbor Freight returns are easy if it's a dud. I have their 3-gallon and it's been running 3 years now for nail guns. Good enough for DIY.
