Safety first! What PPE do you guys use with your air compressors?

Hey folks, just had a close call today with my compressor - a fitting blew out and sent a metal shard flying. Luckily I had my safety glasses on. Got me thinking - what's everyone's must-have PPE when running air tools? I always wear eye protection and hearing protection (those things are LOUD), but wondering if I should add gloves or something else.

Good topic Mark! As a safety inspector, I see too many DIYers skip basic protection. Minimum should be ANSI-rated safety glasses (not just regular glasses), and hearing protection rated for at least 85 dB reduction. Gloves are tricky - they can help with vibration but make sure they're not loose fitting that could get caught. Also, NEVER wear jewelry - rings can deglove fingers if caught in hoses.

Precision is safety too! I use clear anti-fog safety glasses so I can see exactly what I'm doing. For hearing, I invested in electronic earmuffs - they block loud noises but let me hear normal conversation. And I always check my hose connections with a torque wrench to spec before each use. Loose fittings cause 80% of accidents according to my research.

Hank's on point with the connections! I calibrate my regulator monthly and use a digital gauge. For PPE: I wear a full-face shield when using die grinders or anything that creates debris. Regular glasses don't protect from side impacts. Also - respiratory protection! If you're sanding or painting, get a proper mask. Dust from compressed air tools gets everywhere.

Great points everyone! Will - the jewelry reminder is solid, I've seen that happen. Hank & Pete - love the precision approach. I'm adding a face shield to my kit and gonna start checking my fittings more carefully. Stay safe out there!
