Anyone try this Stalwart 12V drill set? $52 seems tempting

Just saw this deal on dealnews: Stalwart 12V Cordless Drill and Driver Set for $52 + free shipping. Link in the OP. Looks like a budget option. Anyone have experience with Stalwart? I'm skeptical about the battery life and torque for the price.

I've seen Stalwart around – it's entry-level stuff. For $52 you're getting brushed motors and likely NiCad batteries. If you're just assembling furniture or light DIY, it might be okay. But for restoration work, I'd pass. Spend a bit more on a Ryobi or even a used Dewalt on ebay.

I picked up one for my son to learn with. Honestly, the chuck wobbles a bit and the clutch slips under load. But hey, it drove screws into pine without stripping too bad. Battery lasts like 20min on a charge. For the price, it's a paperweight? Maybe not, but don't expect to drill into steel.

Thanks for the input! I was thinking of grabbing one as a backup. Sounds like it's worth the $52 if you keep expectations low. I'll stick with my Porter-Cable for real work. But for odds and ends? Might bite.

Good points. I'll pass. Think I'll save for something with a brushless motor. Appreciate the feedback, guys.
