Hey guys, got a weird one. My trusty 20V impact driver battery won't charge. Charger blinks red like it's angry. Battery is about 2 years old, been used daily on the job. Any ideas? I've got a big deck build tomorrow and really need it. Thanks in advance.

Man, I've had that happen. Usually means the battery is toast. How many cycles you put it through? Sometimes the cells get unbalanced. Try leaving it on the charger for a few hours even if it blinks red—sometimes it trickle charges back. But if it's really dead, might be time for a new one. Good luck with the deck!

Whoa, hold up. Before you go leaving a blinking charger unattended, check the charger and battery for any signs of damage—swelling, burnt smell, etc. If it's blinking red, it could be a fault. Don't want a fire hazard. Also, make sure the contacts are clean. A little isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip can work wonders. If it still won't charge, retire that battery. Safety first!

Thanks for the replies. No swelling or smell, contacts look okay but I'll clean them. I've probably cycled it a few hundred times. Might just be its time. I'll try the trickle charge overnight but keep an eye on it. Appreciate the help.

Let us know how it goes. If you need a quick fix, some big box stores have same-day battery deals. I grabbed a two-pack last month for a decent price. Better than being stuck without.
