Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new 1/2" impact wrench. I'm torn between the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT08Z. I do a mix of automotive work and some heavy equipment maintenance. DeWalt has the higher torque rating, but I've heard Makita has better ergonomics and battery life. Anyone have experience with both? Which would you pick?

I've used both. The DeWalt hits harder, no doubt. But it's also heavier and the balancer is off. Makita feels more natural in hand and the battery lasts longer on a charge. For automotive, I'd go Makita. For heavy stuff, DeWalt. What's your primary use?

I'm just a weekend warrior, but I went with Makita after using my buddy's DeWalt. That thing almost twisted my wrist off! Makita has a variable trigger that gives you more control. Plus, the brushless motor seems to sip juice. Just my 2 cents.

Don't forget safety! High torque impacts can cause injury if not handled properly. Make sure whatever you get has a variable speed trigger and use the right sockets. Also, ear protection is a must. I've seen too many guys get hurt because they went for the most torque without thinking about control.

Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'm leaning Makita now. The ergonomics and battery life are more important for all-day use. And Hank, good point on safety. I always use impact-rated sockets and ear plugs. Appreciate the advice!
