Hey everyone! I was grinding some rust off an old truck frame yesterday and a spark flew right into my eye. Luckily I had safety glasses on, but it got me thinking - are they enough? I've seen some guys using full face shields. What do you all use for grinding and cutting? Need some advice before I hit the garage again.

Man, I feel you. I had a close call once with a wire wheel - threw a piece of wire that went through my glasses and stuck in my cheek. Now I use a full face shield over my safety glasses. It's a bit bulky but worth it. Also make sure your glasses are ANSI Z87.1 rated. Don't cheap out on eye pro!

Great topic, Chris! As a safety inspector, I can't stress enough that safety glasses are a minimum, but for grinding, a face shield is highly recommended. Remember, face shields alone don't provide impact protection, so wear both. And check for the Z87+ rating for high impact. Also, if you wear prescription glasses, get some over-the-glass (OTG) safety glasses. Stay safe out there!

I'm all about precision, so I use a grinding visor with a flip-up lens. It has a clear view and protects against sparks and debris. Plus, it fits over my reading glasses. But make sure it's comfortable or you'll end up not wearing it. I also keep a first aid kit in the shop - better safe than sorry.
