Hey everyone, just saw this on Craigslist - a guy selling a Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1/2" impact wrench with two batteries and a charger for $150. Says it's lightly used. I've been wanting one for tire rotations and suspension work on my truck. At that price, it seems like a steal compared to new. Anyone have experience with used Milwaukee tools? Should I jump on it or is there something I should check first?

Paul, I'd be careful. Milwaukee makes great stuff, but at that price it's suspicious. Could be stolen, counterfeit, or the batteries might be shot. I only buy new from authorized dealers - you get the warranty and know it's legit. For automotive work, I swear by my Snap-on electric impact. Yeah it costs more, but it's been flawless for 5 years. Maybe check if the seller has receipts?

Safety first, folks! Before you buy ANY used power tool, test it thoroughly. Ask the seller to demonstrate it working under load. Check the battery contacts for corrosion - that's a red flag. Also inspect the anvil for wear or damage. And PLEASE wear eye protection when testing impact tools. A faulty tool can send metal fragments flying. If anything feels off, walk away.

Thanks for the input guys. Chris, I hear you on the warranty thing, but my budget's tight right now. Bob, good call on testing it - I'll bring a lug nut to try it on. The seller says he's moving and downsizing his tools. He sent me a pic and it looks clean. If the batteries hold charge and it spins smooth, I'm leaning toward grabbing it. Anyone know what a fair price for used M18 Fuel impacts usually is?

Fair used price for that kit in good condition is usually $250-$300, so $150 IS low. That's what worries me. Could be a great find though! If you do buy it, register the serial number with Milwaukee just in case. And maybe run the serial past local tool rental shops - sometimes stolen tools get reported. Good luck, hope it works out!
