Just saw this deal at Hart - 140-piece mechanics set for $70 with free shipping. Link: [URL]. Looks like a solid starter set for the price. Anyone have experience with Hart tools? Worth it or should I save up for something better?

I've handled a few Hart items. For $70, that's a lot of sockets and drivers. The ratchets are okay, not Snap-on smooth but they'll work for weekend jobs. My concern is the case - some reviews say it's flimsy. But for the price, it's a good way to fill gaps in your set without breaking the bank.

Not a mechanic but I use tool sets for my shop. 140 pieces for $70 is insane value - that's like 50 cents a piece. Even if half of them are shitty, you still come out ahead. I'd say go for it if you're starting out or need a travel set. Worst case, you get the good ones and toss the rest.

Thanks guys! I think I'll pull the trigger. Sam, you mentioned the case - is it bad enough that tools fall out? Also, do you know if they're made in China? I try to avoid that if possible.

Yeah, the case is typical budget plastic - latches can pop open if you drop it. I'd recommend storing it carefully. And yes, they're Chinese made like most affordable tool brands now. But Hart is owned by TTI (same as Milwaukee, Ryobi), so the quality control is decent. For $70, you can't go wrong. Just don't expect to use them daily as a pro.
