Hey everyone, I'm planning to build a 10x12 shed in my backyard this spring. I've done some basic DIY stuff before but nothing this big. What power tools should I prioritize buying? I already have a decent drill and circular saw, but wondering about things like miter saws, nail guns, etc. Budget is flexible but don't want to overspend on stuff I won't use much. Thanks!

Awesome project OP! I built my shed last year and it was a blast. Definitely get a compound miter saw - game changer for cutting all those angles cleanly. I got the DeWalt 12-inch sliding one and it made the rafters and trim work SO much easier. Also a good impact driver for driving screws without stripping them. Oh and a pneumatic nail gun if you're doing siding! So satisfying to zip those nails in. You're gonna love it!

Larry's right about the miter saw, but consider your foundation first. If you're doing concrete piers, you'll need a rotary hammer drill. For framing: circular saw is fine, but add a speed square and a good level. Skip the pneumatic nail gun unless you already have a compressor - cordless nailers have come a long way. Milwaukee's M18 framing nailer is solid. And don't forget a good orbital sander for finishing. Buy quality once.

Before you buy anything: SAFETY FIRST. Make sure you have proper eye protection, hearing protection, and a respirator mask for cutting/dust. For tools: ensure your circular saw has a riving knife and blade guard that actually works. Cordless tools are great but keep batteries away from extreme temps. And PLEASE get a GFCI outlet or extension cord if you're working outdoors with electric tools. Seen too many close calls.

Thanks all! Great advice. Larry - that miter saw recommendation is tempting. Bob - good point about the foundation, I'm doing concrete blocks so might skip the hammer drill. Wendy - safety gear is ordered! Think I'll start with the miter saw, impact driver, and cordless nailer. Appreciate the help!
