I learned this the hard way today. I was torquing down some lug nuts and the socket slipped off, sending a metal shard flying. Luckily I had my safety glasses on, but it reminded me how important they are. Even for small jobs, PPE is a must. Don't be like me and think you're invincible.

Preach! I've seen too many guys skip glasses on the job site and end up with a trip to the ER. It's not worth it. And while we're at it, make sure your safety glasses are rated ANSI Z87.1. Cheap ones might fog up or scratch easily. I use a pair with anti-fog coating, especially in humid weather.

Good call, Gary. I always wear mine even when I'm just using a hand tool. It's a habit. Also, check your sockets for cracks or wear. A damaged socket can shatter under torque, sending fragments everywhere. Replace any that look suspect. Safety first, precision second!

Yeah, Mike, I actually have a pair of the 3M ones with the foam gasket. They're comfy and don't fog. But yeah, anyone reading this, don't be a dummy. Wear your glasses. It's like wearing a seatbelt – you don't realize how important it is until you need it.
