Hey folks, just wanted to share a quick tip after seeing my neighbor working on his car with zero protection. ALWAYS wear safety glasses when working under a vehicle! I was changing my oil last week and a bolt snapped, sending metal shards flying. My DeWalt safety glasses saved my eyes - wouldn't trust any other brand. What other PPE do you all swear by for auto work?

Great topic Rick! I'm pretty new to automotive DIY but learned the hard way about gloves. Was replacing brake pads without them and got brake fluid on my hands - nasty stuff! Now I always wear nitrile gloves. Also, hearing protection when using impact wrenches! My neighbor complained about the noise last time I was working late lol

Professional perspective here: Rick's right about eye protection being non-negotiable. Beyond that, I require my crew to wear steel-toe boots on every job site. Dropped a transmission on my foot years ago - still have the boot with the dent as a reminder. Also, respirators for any grinding/sanding work. Those metal particles will mess up your lungs long-term.

Coming from woodworking, I've adapted some of my shop safety habits to auto work. Good lighting is PPE too! Can't tell you how many times proper shop lights have prevented me from missing something important. Also, knee pads for those long sessions under the car. My 50-year-old knees thank me every time.

Solid points everyone! Larry874 - steel toes are smart, I use my DeWalt work boots for everything. Tim - lighting is underrated! I have a Milwaukee work light that's been a game changer. Anyone have thoughts on face shields vs safety glasses for grinding? I've been debating getting one for when I work on rusty parts.
