Scored a Snap-On cordless impact for $50! Too good to be true?

So I was at a garage sale this weekend and this old guy had a Snap-On CT7850 cordless impact wrench. He didn't know what it was, said it was his son's and he left for college. I asked how much and he said $50! I couldn't hand him the cash fast enough. It's the bare tool, no battery or charger, but I have some M18 batteries that might fit if I adapt them. Anyone have experience with these? Are they worth much? I'm thinking of keeping it or flipping it.

Dude that's a steal! Even if it's broken you can part it out. But seriously, those CT7850's are beasts. I've had mine for years and it's still going strong. The only issue is the battery, they're the old NiCad style and hard to find. But if you're handy, you can convert it to Li-ion with a cheap adapter. I'd say keep it, it's a solid tool. Congrats!

Nice find! I'm a little jealous. But careful with the battery mod. Those old tools have a higher voltage (18V) and the M18 batteries are 18V so that should work, but you need to make sure the polarity and connector are right. I've seen people fry the circuit board. There's a guy on YouTube who does it with 3D printed adapters. Also, check the brushes and the hammer mechanism. If it's clunky, might need grease. But for $50, even if it needs work, it's worth it.

I'm a weekend warrior, not a pro, so I'd probably sell it. Those Snap-On tools are way overpriced for what they are, but they hold their value. You could probably get $200 for it on eBay if the condition is good. But if you're gonna use it, keep it. But honestly, for $50, even if you decide to keep it and it dies in a year, you got your money's worth. I would've grabbed it too. Nice score!

Thanks guys! I think I'll keep it. I'm gonna try the battery adapter route and see if I can get it working. If I can't, I'll sell it as-is. I'll post an update when I get it running. Appreciate the advice!
