Anyone else wear a mask when using a car vacuum?

So I was cleaning out my car with my shop vac and that fine dust was just flying everywhere. I started coughing like crazy. Now I wear an N95 when doing it. Anyone else mask up for this? Seems like a no-brainer but I never thought about it.

Absolutely. I use a vac with a HEPA filter on job sites but even then I wear a mask. That fine particulate from drywall dust or brake dust is nasty. Plus if you're using a cheap vac without a filter bag, you're just recirculating it. Get a proper dust collection setup or at least a good respirator.

I double up: a good vac filter and a half-mask respirator. I've seen too many guys get silicosis from ignoring dust. Car interiors also have mold spores and god knows what else. It's not just about the vac; think about what you're stirring up.

I just use a cheap mask from the hardware store. But honestly, I didn't think car vac dust was that bad. Now I'm wondering if I should upgrade my vac or just wear a mask. What's the best budget option for a vac with good filtration?
