Hey all, I've got a DeWalt cordless car vac that's been great for a year, but now the battery won't charge. Plug it in, light flashes red once and then nothing. Tried two different batteries – same issue. Anyone run into this? I'm thinking it's the charger, but wanted to see if there's a fix before buying a new one.

That sucks, man. Flashing red usually means a bad cell or something. But if it does it with two batts, probably the charger. Check the contacts on the charger – sometimes they get grimy. Clean 'em with a little rubbing alcohol. Worth a shot before dropping cash.

I had a similar prob with a Rigid vac. turned out the charger was dead but also the batts were not fully seated. Make sure you push 'em in all the way till they click. Also, some chargers have a thermal sensor – if it's too hot or cold, it won't charge. Let it sit at room temp for a bit.

Check the fuse in the charger if it has one. My Makita charger has a little internal fuse that blows sometimes. Also, try a different outlet – I've had a GFCI outlet trip and not power stuff. If none of that works, you might need a new charger. But maybe you can find a used one on ebay.

Thanks guys! I'll clean the contacts and check the fuse. Pete, good call on the temp – it was in my cold garage. I'll bring it inside and try again. Appreciate the help!
