I'm in the market for a new cordless car vacuum. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt 20V MAX and the Makita 18V LXT. I mostly use it for cleaning out my truck after hauling wood and other DIY stuff. I need something with good suction and battery life. Anyone have experience with either? I'm leaning DeWalt because I already have their batteries, but I've heard Makita has better suction.

I got the Makita a couple years ago. It's a beast. The suction is insane for a handheld, but it eats batteries like crazy. I keep two 5Ah batteries charged and cycle them. I've also used my buddy's DeWalt and it's decent but not as strong. If you're already on the DeWalt platform, stick with it unless you want to buy new batteries. But if you want pure power, go Makita. Just my 2 cents.

I'm on team Makita too, but for a different reason - the filter system. I use mine to suck up fine sawdust in my workshop and the Makita's filter is easier to clean. The DeWalt's filter gets clogged quicker in my experience. Plus Makita has a blower mode that's handy for cleaning out crevices in the car. But honestly, you can't go wrong. Just make sure to get the one with the rubber nozzle for tight spots.

Old timer here. I've had both over the years. DeWalt's build quality is good, but the Makita feels more robust. On thing I'll say - if you're gonna use it for the car, size matters. The DeWalt is bulkier, harder to fit under seats. Makita's slimmer. And don't forget to check the warranty. I had to send my Makita in once and they fixed it free. Not sure about DeWalt these days. But if you're already invested in one battery system, that's a big plus. You can get a bare tool for about $50-60 less if you're in that ecosystem.

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful. I'm going to swing by Home Depot this weekend and test them out. I've got a feeling I'll end up with the Makita, but it's going to be a tough decision since I already have two DeWalt batteries. Maybe I'll just get both and sell one? Haha. Appreciate the input!
