Found a screaming deal on a car vacuum - is it actually worth it or junk?

Hey everyone, long time lurker first time poster in this category. I was at a flea market this morning and picked up a gently used Milwaukee M12 cordless vacuum (the 0850-20 model) for $40. It's missing the crevice tool but seems to power on fine. I do a lot of car detailing on the side and my old 12v plug-in vacuum just died. Did I get a steal or did I waste my money? I know it's not a shop vac but for quick cleanups between details it seemed perfect. Anyone have experience with these? Also where can I get replacement attachments cheap?

For $40? Yeah you did good. Those go for like $100+ new. I've had one in my truck for years. It's not gonna replace a real vacuum for deep cleaning but for sawdust and drywall dust after a job it's clutch. The filter is the weak point - make sure you clean it regularly or it loses suction. You can get a whole accessory kit on Amazon for like $20. Just make sure it's the M12 version and not the older NiCad one. Also check the battery - if it's the old style you might need an adapter. But for 40 bucks you can't go wrong.

Nice score! I've got the same one. Pro tip: grab the flexible crevice tool and the brush attachment. The brush is great for getting dog hair out of carpet. Also, if you do a lot of cars, look into the M12 inflator too - they pair well. But yeah, clean that filter after every use. I learned the hard way when mine started smelling like burnt dust. A quick rinse and dry and it's good as new. Oh and welcome to the forum!

Eh, I'm gonna be the contrarian here. I had one and wasn't impressed. The suction is okay but the battery life is terrible if you're doing a whole car. I switched to the DeWalt 20v and never looked back. But for $40, even if you only use it a few times, you're ahead. Just don't expect it to replace your plug-in for deep cleans. Also, if it's missing the crevice tool, you can sometimes find them at Home Depot in the vacuum aisle. They sell a universal kit that fits most brands. Good luck!
