Hey all, I'm finally building my dream workshop in the garage and need a car vacuum that can also double as a shop vac for dust extraction, spills, etc. I've been looking at the Ridgid 6 gallon and the DeWalt 5 gallon. Which one is better for woodworking cleanup and car interiors? Budget is around $100.

I've got the Ridgid 6 gallon with the fine dust filter and it's a beast! I use it for everything from sawdust to wet spills. Plus the automotive attachments are decent for car seats. DeWalt is good too but Ridgid's lifetime warranty is hard to beat.

If you want precise control for car interiors, go with a smaller vac like a 2-3 gallon. I use a Makita 2-gallon with a HEPA filter and it's perfect for tight spots. But for workshop duty, Ridgid is the way to go. Just make sure you get a cartridge filter and not a bag for wood chips.

Thanks guys! Bob, does the Ridgid actually pick up fine dust well? I was worried it might just blow it around. Mike, I don't think I can justify two vacs, but maybe I'll get a separate handheld for the car later.

Yeah, with the pleated filter it does a real good job on fine dust. Just empty it often so you don't lose suction. And if you get the auto-detail kit, it comes with a crevice tool that fits between seats like a champ.
