So I was out garage saling this weekend and found a barely used Shop-Vac 5 gallon car vacuum with all the attachments for $20. I've been looking for one to clean out my truck but I'm not sure if this model is any good. Anyone have experience with this? The guy said it works great, but I'm always skeptical. Should I go back and grab it?

I've got a similar Shop-Vac and it's a workhorse. For $20, even if it's not the best, it's a steal. I'd snag it before someone else does. Just make sure the filter is clean and the hose isn't cracked. If it's the 5-gallon, it's portable enough for car use. I use mine for my workshop too. Can't beat that price.

Yep, $20 is a no-brainer. But here's the thing - check the suction. Some of those older models have weak motors, especially if it's been sitting in a garage for years. Plug it in and see if it can pick up a few coins or some sawdust. If it clears a drop cloth, you're good. I've restored a few old vacs, and a good cleaning and new filter can make a world of difference. Go get it, Bob!

Totally agree with the others. For $20, worst case you can use it for a few jobs and then sell it for parts. I bought a cheap one from Walmart once and it died in a year. This one probably has more metal parts and is built better. Also, check if the attachments are the standard sizes - those can be replaced easily. If you don't take it, I might go look for that garage sale! haha

Alright, you guys convinced me. I'm driving back there now before the day ends. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks for the tips - I'll definitely test the suction and check the hose. Hopefully it's not a dud. Appreciate the help!
