Stopped by Lowe's today and found this little DeWalt 12V Max Wet/Dry Vac on clearance for $30 (normally $50). It's the DCV580H, looks brand new. I picked it up on impulse, but now I'm second-guessing. Is this worth keeping for car detailing or should I return it? I clean my truck cab every weekend. Thoughts?

Hey Gary, for $30 that's a steal! I've got the 20V version and it works wonders for quick interior touches. The 12V might be a bit less powerful, but for car crumbs and dust it's fine. Plus, it uses the same batteries as my other 12V tools. Keep it! You'll end up using it more than you think, like for those pesky dog hairs in the back seat. I say it's a win.

I'm with Tim. I've seen those in action at the local car meet. Not gonna suck up a bolt, but for dust and little stuff, it's fine. And at $30 you can't complain. You can always sell it on Craigslist if you don't like it. I'll tell you what, back in my day we used a leaf blower and a shop vac and thought we were fancy. Ha! Keep it, but make sure you get the right filter – the one for dry use, don't mix it up with the wet one. You'll have it for years.

Thanks guys. The 12V doesn't come with a battery, but I already got a couple from other tools. I had a spill in the trunk last week, so the wet function is a bonus. Tim, have you used the wet feature on yours? How does it handle small amounts of water?

Yeah, I've used mine to clean up a spilled soda in the cup holder. Shut off the motor, poured a little cleaner, then sucked it up. Worked fine. Just make sure to empty it right after and let it dry out, or it'll smell. And like Hank said, change the filter for wet use. There's a little tab that you flip. You'll figure it out. Keep it and enjoy the clean ride! Let us know how it works out.
