Hey everyone, newbie here. Just got the Dewalt 20V chainsaw and it worked fine for the first few cuts, but now the battery won't charge. The charger just blinks red and green. I've tried cleaning the contacts but no luck. Any ideas?

Hi Larry, welcome to the forum! Blinking red/green usually indicates a communication error between battery and charger. Have you tried a different battery on the same charger, or a different charger with that battery? That can tell you if it's the battery or charger. Also, make sure the battery is at room temp - extreme temps can mess with charging. Sometimes a forced reset helps: remove battery, unplug charger for a minute, then reinsert. Let us know!

Wendy's right. I've had that happen after a long day in the shop. Also, check if any sawdust got into the charger or battery vents - that can cause overheating. Use a can of air to blow it out. And if it's brand new, maybe it's a defective battery or charger - you could exchange it. I've learned the hard way to always have a backup battery.

Thanks Wendy and Steve! I tried the reset and let it cool down, but still blinking. I don't have another battery for this tool yet. I guess I might need to return it. But I'm a bit frustrated because the saw itself is great. Also, I noticed the battery got hot when I charged it initially - could that be an issue?

Heat is normal during charging, but if it's excessively hot, that's not good. Could be a bad cell. Since you've tried the basics, I'd say contact Dewalt or return it. They'll likely replace it. Better to do that now than deal with a faulty battery later. Keep us posted!
