Hey everyone, I just got a new cordless chainsaw and the battery won't charge. It's a 40V lithium-ion. I plugged it in and the charger light stays red. Tried different outlets, nothing. Any ideas?

First thing: check if the battery is fully seated in the charger. Sometimes they don't click in all the way. Also, are you charging in cold temps? Lithium batteries hate cold. If it's below 40°F, bring it inside. If that doesn't work, it might be a defective battery or charger. Contact the manufacturer for warranty.

Yeah what Bob said. Also, sometimes the battery contacts get dirty. Wipe them with a dry cloth. I had a similar issue with my drill and it was just dust. If not, try resetting the battery by pressing the button on it (if it has one) for 10 seconds. Good luck!

One more thing - some chargers have a thermal sensor. If the battery is too hot from use, it won't charge. Let it cool down for 30 min. Also, check the charger for a green light when no battery is inserted - that means it's getting power. If no light, charger might be dead. Sounds like you might have a dud. Return it if under warranty.

Thanks guys! I let it warm up and cleaned the contacts, now it's charging. Must have been the cold. Appreciate the help!
