Hey guys, finally got the permit for a 20x12 deck off the back of the house. Going to be using pressure-treated 2x10s for joists and 6x6 posts. My old electric chainsaw is toast. I need something that can handle a day of cutting and still work tomorrow. Should I go gas or stick with electric? Budget is around $200-300. What would you recommend?

For that size project, I'd say a good gas saw is the way to go. Electric is fine for small jobs but you'll be running extension cords all day. A Stihl MS 250 or Husqvarna 455 Rancher would be perfect. They're reliable and parts are easy to find. If you can stretch your budget a bit, you won't regret it.

Stihl all the way man! I've used the MS 250 for years and it never lets me down. I know it's a bit over your budget but trust me, you'll buy it once. Gas gives you the power and mobility you need. Plus resale value is good if you take care of it.

I've actually been using the DeWalt 60V Max chainsaw for framing and it's been solid. No fumes, no pull start, just a battery. With a couple of 9Ah batteries you can cut most of the day. But for a deck that size, you might need 3-4 batteries. It's quiet too, neighbors won't hate you. Just a thought if you have other DeWalt tools.

Thanks for the input! I was leaning gas but the battery idea has me thinking. I already have a few DeWalt tools but no 60V batteries. Would need to buy in. Might stick with the Stihl MS 250 since I can get it serviced locally. Appreciate the help!
