Hey all, new to the forum. I got a Craftsman 18V chainsaw last spring and it worked great. Now the battery won't charge. I plug it in and the light on the charger comes on for a second then goes out. Tried a different outlet, same thing. Any ideas? Is it the battery or the charger?

I had the same thing happen with my drill. Turned out the battery was just dead dead. Sometimes they need a jump start. Try putting the battery in the freezer for 10 mins, then charge it. Sounds weird but it works. Or maybe check the contacts for corrosion. Clean them with a pencil eraser.

@CraftsmanChris112 That sounds like a dead cell in the battery. The charger detects it and refuses to charge. If the freezer trick doesn't work, you might need a new battery. I've heard some people revive them by opening the pack and replacing the bad cell, but that's risky. If it's under warranty, try contacting Craftsman.

Thanks for the tips. I tried the freezer trick and nothing. I cleaned the contacts too. Guess I'll call Craftsman. I think it's still under warranty. Will update if they replace it.

Good luck! I had to replace a battery for my drill, it was expensive but worth it. Let us know what they say.
