Hey guys, got a Stihl MS 250 that's been sitting for a few months. Finally got it started but it dies as soon as I squeeze the trigger. Idles fine. I cleaned the air filter and put fresh gas in. Any ideas? I'm no pro but I can turn a wrench.

Classic sign of a clogged carburetor. Especially if it sat with ethanol gas. The jets get gummed up. You can try running some Seafoam through it but might need a rebuild kit. Also check your fuel lines for cracks - they get brittle. And make sure the tank vent isn't plugged. Let us know what you find.

Before you tear into the carb, check the spark arrestor screen on the muffler. If it's clogged with carbon, it'll idle but choke out under load. Happens a lot. Just pull it and clean with a wire brush. Also, what's your mix ratio? 50:1 with good synthetic oil. If you used old gas, dump it.

Thanks guys. I'll check the spark arrestor first since that's easy. Gas was fresh 50:1 with Stihl oil. I'll report back after I mess with it this weekend.

Good luck. If it still acts up, get a carb kit. They're cheap and easy. And use non-ethanol gas if you can find it. Saved me tons of headaches.
