Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new chainsaw. I do a lot of DIY projects and some tree trimming around my property. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt 20V MAX and the Makita 18V X2. I don't own either platform yet, so I'm starting fresh. I want something reliable, not too heavy, and that can handle about 8-10 inch logs. Any experiences or opinions? I'm leaning DeWalt but not married to it.

I've used both! I'm a weekend warrior too, so I feel ya. I had the Makita for a while, and honestly, I liked the balance. It felt lighter and the chain tensioning was easier. But then I got the DeWalt for a project, and man, the power is no joke. I think DeWalt has a bit more punch, especially with the 20V MAX. Just my two cents, but you can't go wrong with either.

In my line of work, I see a lot of these. If you're starting fresh, think about the whole system. Makita's 2x18V setup is great for heavy jobs, but you're hauling around two batteries. DeWalt's single 20V is simpler, but you might run out of juice on bigger cuts. For 8-10 inch logs, both will do fine. Check out the bar length—I'd go 14-16 inch. Also, safety features matter. I've had clients who had kickback issues with both, so I always recommend a chainsaw with a good brake. Test them in stores if you can.

Everyone's talking about the tools, but what about maintenance? I've got a garage full of stuff, and I've learned that chainsaws are only as good as their chain. Keep it sharp and you'll be fine. But if I had to pick, I'd go Makita for the build quality. The motor in the 2x18V is a beast, and I've heard they last longer. Plus, if you already have Makita batteries from other tools, it's a no-brainer. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input, y'all! I'm thinking I'll go with the DeWalt because I like the ergonomics, and I might get the 9 Ah battery for longer run time. But I also want to start a professional collection, so maybe I should invest in Makita? Ugh, decisions. Let me sleep on it. Appreciate the advice!
