Hey all, I'm torn between a DeWalt 60V and a Makita 36V chainsaw for firewood and light felling. I've heard mixed reviews on battey life and chain speed. Anyone have real-world experience with these?

I've got the DeWalt 60V. It's a beast for bucking but battery drains fast if you're cutting hardwoods. Makita's 36V is better for limbing IMO. What's your main use?

Mostly oak and pine for my wood stove, maybe 2-3 cords a year. I already have DeWalt batteries for my drill, so that's a plus for me.

Go with DeWalt then. No point buying into a new battery system if you already got them. The 60V is solid, just keep a spare battery charged. I used my neighbor's Makita and it felt underpowered on thick oak.

Yeah, what Dave said. If you're already in the DeWalt family, stick with it. The 60V has plenty of torque for 14-16 inch logs. Just watch the chain tension, I've had mine slip if I get too aggressive.
