Don't skip the chaps, guys!

So after watching way too many chainsaw accident videos (don't ask), I decided to finally buy a pair of chainsaw chaps. I know they're hot and bulky, but I figure $60 vs a trip to the ER is a no-brainer. Anyone here use them every time, or do you slack off sometimes?

I'll admit I don't always wear mine if I'm just making a quick cut or two. But I've had a kickback scare that made me change my tune. The chaps saved my leg once when I slipped on wet grass. Worth the sweat.

As a safety inspector, I've seen too many guys with stitches or worse. Chaps are mandatory at work, but at home you gotta be your own boss. Pro tip: get the wrap-around ones, not just the front. Also, eye pro and ear pro are just as important. Don't cheap out.

40 years swinging saws, and I never go without chaps and a helmet. I've had a chain snap and wrap around my leg — the chaps stopped it cold. Also, keep your chain sharp and your brake working. PPE is last resort, but when you need it, you need it.
