So I was at the big box store today and saw a Husqvarna 455 Rancher marked down from $429 to $299! It's the model with the 20" bar. I've been wanting a new saw for limbing and occasional felling. Is this a good deal? I've read mixed reviews online. Should I pull the trigger?

Hey Gary, $299 for a 455 is a steal! I've had one for years, it's a workhorse. The 455 is a bit heavier than the newer ones but it's built like a tank. Just make sure you check the chain tension and oil it properly. I've seen people complain about the air filter clogging, but if you clean it regularly it's fine. For that price, I'd grab it before someone else does.

I've run the 455 on many job sites. It's a solid saw, but keep in mind it's not a pro-grade. If you're doing occasional heavy work, it'll handle it. The anti-vibe system is decent, but you'll feel it after a long day. I'd say go for it, but maybe upgrade the bar to a 24" if you're cutting bigger wood. Just my two cents.

Eh, I'm a Stihl guy myself, but I can't deny that's a good price. Husqvarna makes decent saws. One thing to watch: the plastic case on the 455 can crack if you drop it. Invest in a good scabbard. And for the love of Pete, use good fuel and oil. I've seen too many guys ruin saws with bad mix. At that price, I'd buy it, use it for a season, and if you hate it, you can resell for almost what you paid.
