Just scored a Husqvarna 455 Rancher for $250 – too good to be true?

Found a Husky 455 Rancher at a garage sale, barely used, for $250. Retail is like $400+. I've been needing a bigger saw for some oak logs. Should I jump on it or is there a catch? Seller says it runs fine, just needs a tune-up. What do you guys think?

If it's in good shape, that's a steal. I've run Husky saws on job sites for years, they're tanks. Just check the bar and chain condition, and make sure it's not leaking bar oil. For $250, even if you put $50 into it, you're ahead. I'd grab it before someone else does.

I’ve got a 455 Rancher for my woodworking side projects. It’s a solid mid-range saw, not too heavy, plenty of power for felling and bucking. At that price, I’d snatch it up. But do a compression check and pull the spark plug to see if it's fouled. Sometimes garage sale deals are 'ran when parked' stories.

Back in my framing days, we used those on the crew. They're workhorses. If it starts cold and idles smooth, you're fine. Worst case, carbs are cheap to rebuild. Just make sure the chain brake works – safety first! I’d say go for it, but haggle a bit. $200 and you got a deal of the year.
