So I was cutting some damp wood and the saw slipped, took a tumble into a puddle. Now the battery won't charge at all. I've dried it off, but no luck. Any suggestions before I toss it?

First off, make sure the contacts are completely dry. Sometimes water gets in the charging port or on the terminals and causes a short. Use a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol to clean them. If that doesn't work, the battery might have internal damage from the impact. Check for any swelling or cracks. If it looks fine, try leaving it in a bag of rice overnight to draw out any moisture, then attempt charging again. If it still won't charge, it's likely a dead cell and needs replacing.

I had a similar issue with a drill battery after dropping it in a bucket. Turned out the BMS (battery management system) got fried. Sometimes you can reset it by leaving the battery off the charger for 24 hours, then putting it on. Also, check the charger itself - maybe the spill shorted the charger. Try a different charger if you have one. If all else fails, I've seen folks crack open the battery and swap cells, but that's risky. Might just be time for a new one.

Honestly, water and batteries don't mix well. I've had a few batteries go bad from moisture. If it's under warranty, check with the manufacturer. Otherwise, consider it a lesson - keep your saw away from water. For future, you can get a waterproof case or bag. But for now, I'd say try Paul's advice, but if it doesn't work, just buy a replacement. Don't risk a damaged battery causing a fire or something.

Thanks all! I'll try the cleaning and rice trick. If that fails, I'll check for warranty. Appreciate the quick replies!
