Hey all, just wanted to share a scare I had yesterday. Was limbing a big oak and my chainsaw kicked back - sliced right into my leg. Good thing I wore my chaps, they caught the chain and saved me from a trip to the ER. Seriously, if you don't have a pair, get one. It's worth every penny.

Man, glad you're okay! I've been cutting for 40 years and I've seen too many guys skip the chaps. They're a lifesaver. Also, make sure they fit right - loose chaps can get caught. And always keep your chain sharp and the brake working. Safety first, always.

That's a wake-up call! I just bought my first chainsaw and I was thinking about getting chaps. Now I'm convinced. Any recommendations on brands? I'm a weekend warrior, so I don't need top-tier, but something decent.

I've got the Husqvarna ones, they've been solid. But anything with a good rating and proper certification works. Just make sure they're comfortable enough to wear all day, or you'll be tempted to take them off.

Also, don't forget eye and ear protection. Chaps save your legs, but sawdust and noise can mess you up long term. I've got tinnitus from not wearing ear pro in my younger days - trust me, you don't want that ringing 24/7.
