Just saw a guy at the lumber yard wearing one of those cheapo helmets with the mesh visor. He was cutting and a chip flew right under the visor into his eye. He was lucky it wasn't worse. Please, spend the extra $50 on a proper forestry helmet with a screen that actually stops debris. Your eyesight is worth more than a few bucks.

Amen Steve. I've been cutting for 30 years and I've seen too many close calls. My rule: helmet, chaps, steel-toe boots, and ear pro EVERY time. A guy I worked with lost part of his leg because he didn't wear chaps. Not worth it.

I'll admit I used to skimp on the helmet. Then a branch fell right on my head (hard hat saved me). Now I wear a full setup. But hey, what do you guys think about those anti-vibe gloves? Worth it or gimmick?

Gloves are good, but I prefer a quality saw with built-in anti-vibe. I run a Stihl MS 261 and it's night and day. Cheap saws will rattle your hands to numbness. Also, take breaks - white finger is real.

Gloves help but don't cure. Take Sam's advice and invest in a saw that doesn't shake you apart. And for the love of Pete, never ever use a saw without chain brake function. Seen too many kickbacks send a saw flying at someone's face.
