Storm prep time – time to fire up the saws?

Just saw this article about Avista bracing for a windstorm. Power outages are expected, which means fallen trees. I've got my MS 261 tuned to perfection, but I'm wondering what kind of chain you guys run for storm cleanup? I'm thinking of switching to a skip tooth for faster cutting in tangled debris.

Nice saw, Wendy. I've got a whole stable of saws ready – 066 Magnum for the big stuff, 362 for medium, and a little 180 for limping. Storm prep is half the fun. Make sure you've got extra chains and a sharpener. Anyone else stock up on bar oil before a storm? Local stores sell out fast.

I've cleared more storm damage than I can count. Skip tooth is good for dirty wood, but I prefer full chisel on a windy day – cuts faster if you can keep it clean. Biggest tip: mark your escape routes and never cut alone. Had a close call last year when a limb hung up and swung back. Stay safe out there.

Good tips, Tim. I always carry a wedge and a sledge to prevent pinching. Gary, I've got 5 gallons of bar oil in the garage – I learned that lesson the hard way. Anyone else use a specific mix for their saws in cold weather? Might be chilly after the storm.
