Hey guys! I'm planning to build a 12x16 composite deck this summer. I have a cheapo cordless drill that keeps stripping screws. What drill/driver combo would you recommend for driving composite deck screws? My budget is around $200, but I can go a bit higher if it's worth it.

For composite decking, you'll want an impact driver, not a regular drill. The constant hammering prevents cam-out. I've been using the Dewalt DCF887 for years on job sites – it's a beast. Pair it with a drill like the DCD791 for pilot holes. Both can be had for around $250 on sale. Worth the extra cash IMO.

I built my deck last year with a Ryobi set from Home Depot. The brushless impact driver was like $99 and handled everything. Composite screws are tough though – definitely get one with at least 1800 in-lbs of torque. Also, use a screw guide bit to prevent stripping.

If you're on a budget, the Harbor Freight Bauer impact driver ($60) is surprisingly good for the price. I used it for my shed and it's still going strong. But for a big deck, maybe spend a bit more. Check Craigslist – I've scored Dewalt stuff for half price.

Thanks for the tips! I think I'll go with a Dewalt impact and drill combo. I found a kit on Amazon for $230. Appreciate the help – will post pics when it's done!
