Hey everyone! I'm trying to decide between the DeWalt DCD999 and Makita XPH14Z for heavy-duty driving. I've heard DeWalt has more power but Makita is smoother. What do you guys think? I do a lot of deck building and framing.

Go with the Makita XPH14Z. I've used both on renovation sites and the Makita is way more comfortable for all-day use. The trigger is smoother and it's lighter. Plus the quick-shift mode is a lifesaver for switching between driving and drilling. You won't regret it.

I hear you Mike, but I've gotta give it to the DeWalt DCD999. I've been a framer for 15 years and that thing drives lags like nothing. The power is insane with the flexvolt advantage. I know it's a bit heavier but if you're doing serious framing, you want that extra umph. Makita's nice but not for heavy duty.

I own both actually. For raw power, DeWalt wins hands down. But the Makita has better ergonomics and battery life if you're doing lighter stuff. If you're building decks all day, I'd say DeWalt. But honestly you can't go wrong with either. Just pick whichever battery platform you already have.

Thanks guys! I think I'm leaning toward the DeWalt for the power. I already have a few DeWalt batteries anyway. Appreciate the input!
