Hey guys, I'm torn between the DeWalt DCD805 and the Makita XPH14Z. I do a lot of framing and deck work, and I need something that can handle repetitive drilling without overheating. My old brushed Milwaukee is dying. Anyone have experience with both? Which one holds up better over time?

I've had the Makita for about a year now. It's a beast for the size. The brushless motor really keeps it cool even after drilling 200 holes in a row. The chuck is solid too. DeWalt makes good stuff but I've seen more issues with their chucks on the DCD805. If you want reliability, go Makita.

Gotta recommend the DeWalt personally. I've had the 805 for 2 years and it's been through hell – dropped off a ladder twice, covered in drywall dust – still runs like new. The Makita is great but the ergonomics on the DeWalt fit my hand better. Plus if you already have batteries in one system, stick with that.

I'm with Rick on this. Makita's hammer drill mode is smoother than DeWalt's, and for mixed work (drilling into wood, metal, concrete), the Makita just feels more refined. But honestly, you can't go wrong with either. I'd say test the grip in store – that's what sealed it for me.
