DeWalt vs Makita 18V Drill Showdown: Which One's the Real Beast?

I'm torn between the DeWalt DCD999 and the Makita XFD131. Both are brushless 18V hammer drills. I need precision for plumbing fittings and occasional masonry. The DeWalt has 820 in/lbs torque vs Makita's 1090, but Makita is lighter. Anyone done side-by-side? I don't want slop in the chuck.

Man, I've used both extensively. The Makita is a beast for sure. That torque for the weight is insane. I built my deck with it and it chewed through 6x6 posts like butter. DeWalt is solid too but feels a bit more industrial. But for precision, Makita's trigger control is smooth as butter. Go with the Makita, you won't regret it!

Hold up, make sure u check the safety features. The DeWalt has that kickback brake and clutch adjustments that really help if u hit a rebar. Makita's got a blade brake too but I've seen some reports of overheating under heavy load. Also, wear gloves and goggles whatever u pick. I'd lean DeWalt for safety over raw power.

Thanks guys. @LevelLarry650, good to hear about trigger control – that's what I need for precise pilot holes. @RenovationRick848, I hear ya on safety, but does that kickback brake actually work? I've had drills twist my wrist before. Also, what about battery life? I'm hearing DeWalt's new flexvolt advantage...

Battery? Go Makita all the way. Their 5Ah cells last forever. I left mine out in the rain once by accident (don't tell Rick) and it still worked after drying. DeWalt's batteries are good too but they swell more. And for the kickback thing, both have it but Makita's feels more natural. Just my 2 cents!
