Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new cordless drill. I've been using my old DeWalt for years but it's on its last legs. I'm torn between the DeWalt DCD791 and the Makita XFD131. Both seem solid, but I want to hear from you guys who've used them. What's the real deal? I do woodworking, so I need something with power and precision.

I've got the Makita, and honestly, it's been a workhorse. The battery life is killer, and it's light enough to use all day without killing my arm. I've dropped it, used it in tight spots, and it just keeps going. DeWalt's got a good rep, but I've seen a few guys have issues with the chuck on the DCD791. But that's just what I've heard. You might want to check the torque specs – Makita has a slight edge there.

I'm a DeWalt guy through and through. I've got the DCD791 and it's a beast. That hammer drill feature is awesome for masonry, and the brushless motor is efficient. I've put it through hell – drilling through studs, concrete, you name it. Never had a chuck problem. But honestly, you can't go wrong with either. It's like choosing between a Ford and a Chevy. Go with whatever feels better in your hand.

Why not get both? Just kidding... but seriously, I've used both in my shop. The Makita has a better ergonomic grip if you have smaller hands – I know that's a thing. And the LED light on the DeWalt is better positioned, doesn't get blocked by the bit. Also, check if you already have batteries – go with the brand you already have invested in. You'll save money on batteries and chargers.

Thanks guys, that's helpful. I haven't bought into a battery system yet – my old one is so outdated. So I'm starting fresh. I think I'm leaning toward Makita based on the battery life and weight. But I'll try to find a store where I can feel both in hand. Appreciate the input! And Wendy, you're right – maybe I'll get both eventually for different tasks... my wallet thanks you.
