Hey guys, I'm an apprentice and need a new 18V drill for framing. Can't decide between the Dewalt DCD996 and Makita XPH14. Any experience with these? I want something that lasts.

Both are beasts! I've got the Dewalt and it's never let me down. Tons of torque, handles lags like butter. But Makita's XPH14 is also solid, maybe a bit lighter. Flip a coin, you can't go wrong.

Go with Dewalt if you want value. They have good bundle deals. Makita is great but pricier. Check the specs, Dewalt has higher max torque I think. For framing, you want that extra grunt.

Precision wise, the Makita has a better clutch and chuck, less runout. If you do any finish work, that matters. But for pure framing, Dewalt's hammer drill mode is nice for concrete anchors. I'd say Dewalt for framing, Makita for mixed use.

Thanks guys! Think I'll go with the Dewalt for the torque and price. Appreciate the help.
